Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes.

Background/Need
The Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group develops innovative undersea and undersea-enabled capabilities for transition to operational systems in the US Navy and other Department of Defense sponsors. Focus areas include acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, under sea networks, autonomous systems, image processing, and advanced signal processing algorithms. The group performs rigorous systems analyses, develops system architectures, and builds prototypes to demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of new concepts, capabilities, and processing techniques.

Group 37 is seeking an IT system administrator to work with a team in support of various cutting-edge projects for undersea systems as well as daily operational IT and cyber security tasks. The candidate will support the IT activities in the Group for both classified and unclassified processing systems.
This includes the following responsibilities:
•Installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of computer workstations, servers and network infrastructure
•Installation and maintenance of commercial software
•Handling technical support requests for hardware and software issues
•Automation of the Group’s operational tasks
•Managing and maintaining the Group’s computer/IT supplies and spares
•Specifying and ordering new computer systems and supplies
•Documentation of IT procedures
•Support for security procedures
•IT support for laboratory and field experiments, including field deployments
•General User Desktop support

Required Skills:
The candidate must be capable of independently setting personal goals to coordinate and meet the priorities of different projects in a timely manner. This position requires frequent personal interaction with other Group members to troubleshoot and solve problems, so effective oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with a strong ability to quickly learn new technologies and techniques on the job. They should have existing competence in, and be able to demonstrate experience with, the following key technologies:
•Windows, and Linux operating systems in desktop and server environments
•Scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl
•Rackmount and desktop x86-based computer hardware
•Local- and Wide-Area Network design, including firewall and router configuration
•Virtualization platforms such VMware ESX and VMware Workstation
•Storage architectures including RAID, SAN, and NAS
•Must have security+ certification

Other:

Work location: Onsite. Candidates should expect to be onsite 5 days a week.

Clearance: Candidates must have an active secret clearance to be considered for this position.

Interview Process: Initial zoom/phone with HM. If candidate advances to next round, larger group interview with technical team onsite.
