Job Title: System Design Specialist II - Monitoring Administrator

Job Description:

The Monitoring Administrator is responsible for administering application-focused monitoring environments, leveraging tools such as Splunk and ServiceNow Event Management for pattern detection, as well as ServiceNow Incident Management to support ITIL processes. Responsibilities include maintaining the current monitoring environments, driving process improvements, and supporting evaluations of alternative monitoring solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

Monitoring Platform Administration
  • Design, deploy, and maintain Splunk Cloud environments.
  • Configure indexers, search heads, forwarders, deployment servers, and clustering.
  • Manage data ingestion pipelines, parsing, indexing, and retention policies.
  • Ensure platform scalability, availability, and performance.
Data & Use Case Development
  • Onboard new data sources (logs, metrics, events, APIs, cloud services).
  • Develop and optimize SPL searches, dashboards, alerts, and reports.
  • Implement operational, performance, and security monitoring use cases.
  • Tune searches and indexes for efficiency and cost control.
  • Implement Proof of Concept (POC) projects to evaluate monitoring improvements and alternative solutions.
Security & Compliance
  • Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and data governance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Yum! Security standards and audit requirements.
  • Support SIEM use cases.
Operations & Automation
  • Monitor Splunk health and troubleshoot ingestion or performance issues.
  • Perform upgrades, patching, and routine maintenance.
  • Integrate Splunk with CI/CD pipelines, ITSM tools (ServiceNow), ServiceNow Event Management and cloud platforms.
  • Automate administrative tasks using scripts (Python, PowerShell).
  • Follow up and resolve day to day ServiceNow support tickets related to monitoring and service requests.
Collaboration & Documentation
  • Document architecture, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to Splunk users and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience administering Splunk in a Cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • 2+ years of ServiceNow experience.
  • 2+ years of Linux server administration.
  • Proven experience integrating Splunk with Enterprise and Cloud Environments.
  • Proven experience automating ServiceNow ticket creation from Splunk.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft Entra User administration, SSO, and MFA.
  • Experience with Datadog.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containers, or microservices logging.
  • Scripting experience (Python preferred).
