Our Global Genetically Engineered Models (GEMs) Team within Comparative Medicine (CM) supports the expansion of animal science, preclinical care, and research model development furthering research across the world. We are the innovation incubator within in vivo pre-clinical research and are the central partner for in vivo scientific input, organizing and performing all in vivo activities.

The role is a highly technical and/or specialized professional position responsible for supporting several disease areas across Client Biomedical Research (La Jolla, CA USA) providing high quality & consistent in vivo technical research support within our multi-building, multi-discipline research program. The role is primarily lab-based and on-site.
Job Purpose:
To conduct basic lab duties as assigned by onsite Principal Scientist II around genetically modified mouse lines.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Plan and execute genotyping experiments for genetically modified mice in accordance with established protocols.
Perform genetic characterization of newly generated and breeding mouse lines.
Support the development, implementation, and optimization of new methods for genetic characterization.
Ensure accurate documentation, analysis, and reporting of experimental data.
Maintain laboratory operations, including organization, equipment upkeep, and ordering of consumables.
Contribute to the overall success of the GEMs team by delivering high-quality in vitro and in vivo work and providing flexible support across team activities as needed.
What you ll bring to the role:
Bachelor s degree in Biological Sciences (e.G., Genetics, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline) with 2-4 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience.
Molecular Biology Expertise
Demonstrated experience designing and optimizing PCR-based assays for accurate and unambiguous determination of mouse genotypes.
Hands-on experience with qPCR methodologies (SYBR Green, TaqMan, and/or ddPCR);familiarity with NGS library preparation is an advantage.
Mouse Model and Genetics Knowledge
Solid working knowledge of mouse model systems, transgene structures, and genetic strategies (e.G., inducible knockout models), as well as Mendelian genetics.
Foundational understanding of transgenic and knockout mouse generation processes to support genetic characterization of newly generated or imported lines.
Cell Culture Experience (desired)
Knowledge to culture, maintain and screen mammalian and mouse ES cells for downstream characterization.
Operational and Logistics Experience
Experience with laboratory ordering processes and logistics, including procurement of consumables through e-Shop or comparable systems.
