The Construction Design Manager (CDM) manages and executes the design process for capital construction projects. The CDM oversees all design-related activities with external consultants, including Architects and Engineers, during the design phase, supports bidding and procurement activities, and assists Project Managers during the construction phase to ensure that project deliverables align with approved design intent, standards, and regulatory requirements.

The Construction Design Manager acts as Lake County s principal representative for design development and design deliverables throughout the entire project lifecycle, ensuring quality, coordination, and constructability of project designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the design development process for capital construction projects from concept through construction documents.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Architects, Engineers, and other design consultants.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts to ensure consistency, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Review design submittals, drawings, specifications, and technical documents for compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Support procurement and bidding phases by assisting with bid documents, responding to RFIs, and participating in contractor evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers during construction to address design-related issues, change orders, RFIs, and field clarifications.
  • Ensure design deliverables meet project scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Facilitate design review meetings, value engineering sessions, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Monitor consultant performance, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions and approvals throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing design for capital or large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction design processes, building systems, and codes.
  • Experience coordinating with Architects, Engineers, and public-sector stakeholders preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
