Under general supervision, the Facilities and Construction Stationary Engineer performs skilled work of moderate to high difficulty in the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of facility systems and construction-related mechanical equipment. Work is performed on County-owned buildings, infrastructure, and construction sites to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of physical plant systems. The incumbent exercises independent judgment, applies advanced technical skills, and receives minimal supervision compared to lower-level maintenance classifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operates, monitors, maintains, and repairs stationary and mechanical equipment, including boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, pumps, compressors, generators, and related building systems.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on facilities and construction-related equipment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
  • Supports construction and renovation projects by inspecting mechanical installations, coordinating system startups, and verifying adherence to design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and determines appropriate corrective actions.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical drawings related to facilities and construction systems.
  • Maintains logs, records, and reports related to equipment operation, maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, and building codes.
  • Coordinates with contractors, engineers, and other trades during construction, upgrades, and repair activities.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance situations and provides on-call support as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of stationary engineering principles, mechanical systems, and physical plant operations.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of boilers, HVAC systems, and other stationary equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
  • Strong attention to safety, detail, and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;technical or vocational training in stationary engineering, facilities maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Progressive experience in facilities maintenance, stationary engineering, or construction-related mechanical work.
  • Valid stationary engineer or boiler operator license, as required by local or state regulations.
